30 Days of Indie Travel, Day 14: Quote

14 Nov

Today’s Indie 30 prompt asks about your favorite travel quote.

Okay, I’m going to be honest here – I had no ideas and had to google travel quotes. I came up with this Matador article, and I kind of don’t like most of them. Quotes are usually either sappy, too pretentious, or too out of context to be interesting. I used to really like them. But now they often annoy me. Better to read whole works.

Surprisingly, though, I found one I like on there because it’s just a plain statement that makes sense.

“To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.” – Bill Bryson

This is one of the reasons I like to travel. That sense of wonder about things as simple as going to the bathroom (wow, a squat toilet – believe me that sort of wonder fades quickly). I love it.
