Foodie Friday: Delicious Bakery Oliversweet

13 Jul

A bakery in Seoul contacted us recently asking whether we would like a sample package of their pastries. After a long difficult inner battle, I decided that yes, I would not be at all averse to some free delicious pastries. The next day, a package came in the mail from Oliversweet with an assortment of their mini tarts and a 5 piece coffee cake set.

That very afternoon we attacked a chocolate walnut tart with gusto. Talk about making a good first impression! The crust was buttery, the walnuts had retained a great crunchy texture during shipping, and the chocolate interior was rich and blended together the other elements perfectly. I’m so glad they sent us two! If you try one thing from Oliversweet, try this.

Thousand Pecan Tart- This is basically a mini pecan pie. After a few days in the fridge, it hadn’t lost any of its nut quality. They still tasted fresh and crunchy. The interior was quite sweet, but well balanced by the crust and nuts.

Cinnamon Spice Carrot Cake - I’ve never been a huge fan of carrot cake, but this piece was awesome. It’s was extremely moist with a buttery aftertaste and the spice and carrot levels were really well-balanced.

Chocolate Fudge Brownie - I’ve had plenty of really good brownies and while this one wasn’t revolutionary, it was really very good. It was dense, a tad chewy, with a strong chocolate flavor and a smattering of nuts.

Amarena Cherry Brownie - Amarena cherries are a small dark Italian cherries that is usually bottled in syrup (thanks Wikipedia!). This brownie had a really strong non-artificial cherry flavor. It tasted like it was made with a cherry liqueur. It was one of my favorite things.

Honey Strawberry Coffee Cake - Another thing with a delicious buttery aftertaste! Good moist cake, real strawberry pieces. Nice.

Yuzu Compote Coffee Cake - Like the other coffee cake, but tinged with a nicely balanced bitter citrus flavor from the yuzu.

After trying everything I noticed a pattern with these goods: butteryness, good balance between ingredients, and stable quality during refrigeration. If you’re looking for some gourmet baked goods, I could happily recommend Oliversweet. You can order items from their online store to be delivered within Korea.

These baked goods were given to us for free, but the opinions are my own.
