In Pictures: The Monuments of Washington DC
7 Feb
Before leaving home, Jeff and I lived in Washington, DC. We were in the Columbia Heights neighborhood which is a ways north of the National Mall. But I worked on the Mall, at the American History Museum, and we did occasionally play tourist in the city as well. Seeing the Washington Monument was part of my commute, and I have visited the other monuments numerous times. Here’s some pictures of the monuments within America’s capital city.
Inside the Jefferson Memorial is another giant statue, this one also 19 feet tall, but of Thomas Jefferson.
Between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument lies the relatively recent World War II Memorial, opened in 2004. It consists of a fountain surrounded by pillars and arches.
These are only a few of the monuments in Washington, DC. The most famous ones of which I do not have pictures are the Vietnam War Memorial and the Korean War Memorial.
Have you been to Washington DC? Which monument is your favorite?

I am pretty sure this post caused me to have some dreams about various monuments coming to life last night. Not positive, but pretty sure!
Anyway, I am holding out judgment on “favorite monument” until I finally find time to go see the giant Einstein head in front of the National Science Foundation. I have good feelings about that one…
Oh, I haven’t seen the Einstein one yet! I also want to see that giant head coming out of the sand somewhere…
