Best Food of 2016

We spent a lot of time, effort, and money trying a bunch of great new restaurants in DC this year! Here was the best of what we tried.

When a blizzard came around, we quickly checked the forecast and determined that we should be able to get home if we went to dinner at Rasika. We were almost the only people there!

Beiler’s Donuts in Philly takes the prize. I even wrote a whole post about donuts in Philly! I also loved V Street in Philly and Agora in DC.

The Liberty Tavern in Arlington gets top billing for March. Also great: Lighthouse Tofu in Annandale and Queen Amannisa in Crystal City.

We tried a huge number of great places in April. I’m going to pick Toki Underground as #1. Others include: Fast Gourmet in U Street, Frankly… Pizza in Wheaton, Maryland, Doi Moi in U Street, Zaytinya in Chinatown, Abbey Burger Bistro in Baltimore, and Alewife in Baltimore.

Thai food at Pusadee’s Garden in Pittsburgh – pictured is tofu khao soi. Also worth noting: Mintwood Place in Adams Morgan, Marib in Springfield, and Abunai, a food truck in DC.

I’m going to go with the pizza and appetizers at Etto in Logan Circle – this is a really tasty crostini. Also great: Grand Trunk in Penn Quarter, Palette 22 in Shirlington, and Proof in Chinatown.

Kyirisan in Shaw – scallops with basil ice cream. I also very much enjoyed DGS Delicatessen in the Mosaic District and Pupuseria Dona Azucena near our new place.

The meat fest at Churrascaria Palace in Rio was well worth the wait! We tried a lot of great places in Brazil, and I also enjoyed 2941 Restaurant in Falls Church. This is a picture of a dessert at 2941 because I apparently did not take any pictures at Churrascaria Palace!!! Shame on me.

Levain Bakery in Manhattan is worth the line! Also awesome are Laduree and Ess-A-Bagel, both in NYC.

For our wedding anniversary, we went to The Restaurant at Patowmack Farm in Lovettsville, VA. It was incredible! Pictured are the seasonal vegetables. We also went to Volt in Frederick which was good as usual.

The Izakaya at Daikaya in Chinatown was exceptional – this is the only picture I took, apparently. Halal Guys in Springfield was also delicious!

For our 10 year dating anniversary, we went to Pineapple and Pearls in Barracks Row! It was absolutely worth it. Pictured is the granny smith apple crostata, only one of many delicious courses.

What good things did you eat in 2016?
