A November of Blogging

Hello friends, fans, loved ones! It’s me, Rachel. I’m still here and now trying to come back to blogging!

If you’re a regular, you know it’s been a while. It’s not that I haven’t had things to write about – I certainly have. I got out of the habit and then the habit of not blogging became ingrained and it felt too scary to try to plunge back in.

But here I am, ready to take that plunge! November is a month of challenges. In years past, I’ve participated in NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month. It may be November first, but it’s not too late to start your novel! I’ve found it to be a fun challenge and a great kick in the pants to get you writing.

This year, though, I’m going back to what I used to love: blogging. I was filling the creative void with the List App, which then changed its name to li.st, and then shut down altogether last month. It was a beautiful and vibrant community while it lasted, and I am happy that I made friends there, some of whom I’ve since met in person. It reminded me of the travel blogging community, which is so warm and inviting. I miss being on the road and running into bloggers.

I may no longer be traveling full-time, but I am still traveling. And of course, I’m still eating at delicious places. I have so many stories to write, and I’m going to start this month. Instead of writing a novel in a month, I’m planning to write a blog post every day for the month of November. So get ready for a whole bunch of content!

Recent Journeys

Here are a few things I’ve been up to lately:

  • A long weekend in the Bay Area
  • Two long weekends in New York City
  • Officiating a themed wedding in Oakland
  • Driving down to Charleston for the eclipse
  • Two weeks in Japan
  • Goat yoga
  • Ropes course in Virginia Beach

In addition to traveling, I’ve been learning to crochet, watching plenty of TV, taking belly dancing classes, doing lots of trivia both in a bar and online, studying kanji, and reading a lot. I am up to 140 books this year. At this rate I’ll definitely crack 150 – I’ve never read this much in a year!

Upcoming Plans

Next year is shaping up to be an exciting one travel-wise! Here are my current plans:

  • One week in Mexico City for my 30th birthday. We may also go to Oaxaca.
  • Two weeks in Norway, with a strong possibility of other Scandinavian countries, with friends!

I’m sure there will be weekend trips in there as well, but those are the main things.

Looking forward to a month of blogging!
