Overall, we had a good 2017, despite anxiety about the political climate. We traveled a good bit. Here’s an overview featuring photos from the year!
In January, we ate some tasty food, went on our usual board game weekend, and I planned a surprise birthday weekend for Jeff’s 30th birthday. We went to Charlottesville, and one of the places we went was Our Lady of the Angels monastery (pictured above) to buy cheese.
Our main activity in February was visiting the San Francisco Bay Area to see Jeff’s brother Kevin. We walked around Berkeley, went to a pinball museum, and visited Alcatraz.
At the end of March, we took the bus up to New York to visit Jeff’s brother Patrick. We walked around Prospect Park and did a dumpling crawl in Flushing.
In April, we visited the Kusama exhibit at the Hirshhorn. We also did a chilly beach weekend in Lewes, Delaware and checked out the Air and Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy Center out by Dulles and an art installation in Arlington.
We did more close to home exploring in May. We climbed the bell tower of the National Cathedral, went canoeing in Fountainhead Regional Park and walked around Occoquan, did live band karaoke at Hill Country BBQ, and waited in line at Bad Saint.
We didn’t do a lot of note in June: an aerial yoga class, a home butter tasting, a baby shower, mini golf.
July was a busy month. We visited New York again, saw the National Museum of African American History and Culture, and flew out to Oakland to officiate a wedding. The above photo was taken at the Oakland Zoo.
In August, we visited my parents and went to Charleston for a weekend and to see the total solar eclipse.
Our big Japan trip was in September, which took up most of the month. We also hosted a Japan-themed party after we got back, including a Kit Kat tasting. This photo is from the zen gardens at Tofukuji in Kyoto.
October was another more chill month: we visited a jack-o-lantern art exhibit, did goat yoga, and got out to the archery range.
We took it easy in November. We did make it out to the Mean Girls musical at the National Theatre, a craft fair at Nationals Park, and the Outer Banks for Thanksgiving.
Finally, December was largely devoted to friends and family and holiday parties and prep. The photo is from our 11-year anniversary celebration dinner at Ambar in Clarendon.
